Continuous, effective and efficient nutritional assistance to tens of thousands of families; empowerment and support of local NGOs; raise the public's awareness to nutritional insecurity and poverty in Israel.

In light of the growing phenomena of poverty and nutritional insecurity in Israel, LATET initiated and has been operating for the past 10 years, the "Food for Life" program designed to provide effective assistance to as many needy individuals as possible in their daily struggle to survive through the collection and distribution of food via a network of partner local nonprofit rganizations. In addition, the program aspires to raise the Israeli public's awareness to the plague of poverty and hunger.

LATET serves as an umbrella organization to 120 nonprofit organizations (associations, soup kitchens and municipal social services departments) in 80 communities of all sectors of Israeli society including: senior citizens, large families, single parent families, new immigrants, etc. This collaboration produces efficient, continuous aid to over 50,000 families and 200,000 needy individuals.

The "Food for Life" program is modeled after the United States' largest charitable hunger-relief organization, "America's Second Harvest," with three regional logistical distribution centers– in central, northern and southern Israel – that function as Regional Food Banks. Inventory, collection and distribution of the supplies are closely monitored by LATET.

Food collection for the "Food for Life" program is based on 4 main channels:

Strategic cooperation with the Israeli food industry

LATET regularly cooperates with all of Israel's largest food manufacturers and dozens of food distributors, including: Tnuva, Osem, Strauss-Elite, Unilever, and operates with additional companies such as: Netto group, Hogla-Kimberly, Materna, Similac etc. The cooperation includes exclusive donation agreements with Unilever and Osem, and regular activities with Strauss-Elite and Tnuva.

In addition to the regular donations of food items, before the main holidays, unique activities and projects are held such as:  Food Raising for Passover, "To Give with Love" for the high holidays, TV presentations on Channel 2 to raise funds for family meals and more

The advantages to working with Latet in the food area are as such:

·         Working with one main responsible body, as opposed to hundreds of local charities.

·         Umbrella organization – country-wide distribution, to all sectors equally.

·         Meticulous supervision guaranteeing the food reaches the destination.

·         Working with a reliable body, transparent with low operating budget.

·         Marketing – Efficient and successful PR and publicity.

·         Donating to Latet is tax deductible.

Food Drives

Over the years, LATET held dozens of food drives in supermarket chains, schools, kibbutzim, towns and companies. Tens of thousands of volunteers participated in these campaigns and some two million Israelis donated tens of thousands of tons of food supplies

Latet operates two projects every year:

1.  Latet for Passover

2.  Latet (to Give) with Love - Rosh Hashana

In the last 5 years, Latet has organized 25 national food raising campaigns with the help of dozens of thousands of volunteers.  Over 2,000,000 Israelis donated thousands of tons of food!  In this way, Latet raises food for distribution for impoverished communities, encourages civil society to participate in humanitarian activities and brings awareness to the public regarding the poverty and food shortage situation in Israel.

This activity is the result of strong cooperation between Latet and "Shufersal" supermarket chain, the largest supermarket chain in Israel.  In this framework additional combined activities and cooperation were achieved with other chains: Haribua Ha'kahol , Superpharm, Toys R Us, Tzomet Sfarim, Dyonon, Office Depot and more.  In addition, Latet collaborates regularly with:  The boy scouts, Bnei Akiva, Young maccabi, and organizations such as:  Impact Foundation, Youth Achievement Award, Journey, Youth Coaching.

Food Purchase

Supplies are regularly purchased from dozens of manufacturers, wholesalers, and distributors. The budget for the purchasing is almost exclusively from Israeli companies, foundations, and the general public.

Food Rescue

Perishable food products are regularly collected from producers and distributors. The entire process is closely monitored and evaluated by LATET utilizing a logistical system of collection through distribution.

In light of the increasing need for aid, LATET is advancing an initiative to upgrade and strengthen the logistical infrastructure with the goal of providing a comprehensive response to and a solution to the problem of nutritional insecurity in Israel.

Logistical support – The logistical support for the program is provided by "Industrial Buildings Corporation ltd" who contributes the Logistical buildings, and "FedEx" and "Flying Cargo Trucking" who contribute the trucking and distribution.

Corporate and Foundation support – Recent years have seen the support of key companies and foundations including: Pratt foundation, Rochlin foundation, Friendship foundation, Glencore foundation, Jewish federations worldwide, Poalim bank, the lottery Corporation, Partner company and more.
