Aid for Life
For thousands of Holocaust survivors in need, access to balanced, nutritious food is not something to be taken for granted. The monthly food boxes, one filled with non-perishable items and one with fresh produce (such as dairy products and vegetables), are delivered to the survivors doorstep by dedicated, regular, volunteers, containing items specially chosen to suit the dietary needs of elderly.
Beyond that, the food boxes allow this vulnerable population to allocate their limited resources to other critical expenses.
The Home Repairs Project addresses safety hazards, environmental neglect, and long-term deterioration that pose risks to elderly individuals in their homes. Out of concern for their health and quality of life, the initiative adapts homes to ensure accessibility for the resident, such as installing supportive railings, widening doorways, and turning bathtubs into accessible showers.
Over the years, thousands of homes have been renovated and upgraded, averaging one apartment per day.
In many cases, the loneliness experienced by those in need is just as painful as their financial hardship. Our “Aid for Life” program offers a unique response to this challenge through more than a thousand dedicated, regular volunteers who deliver aid directly to the homes of Holocaust survivors and elderly individuals. These volunteers provide ongoing social support, personal connection, and ensure that no essential need goes unmet.
Beyond food and social support, at Latet we also recognize the ongoing, essential needs that are critical for the independence, health, and well-being of the elderly. Through direct contact with these individuals and regular updates from their personal volunteers, we identify and respond to their needs in real time.
To meet arising needs, we established a dedicated support fund which helps us provide dental care, eyeglasses, incontinence products, warm winter supplies, emergency call buttons and many more. All services are free of any charge to the survivors, provided in the comfort of their own home.
