When one in three children in Israel faces food insecurity, food rescue must be at the heart of the solution. Edible food rescue begins at the branches and warehouses of food manufacturers and retail chains across the country, where many products – although not meeting marketing standards – are still fresh and perfectly suitable for consumption: surplus items, products with short expiration dates, damaged packaging, and more.

With the help of an advanced logistical system and a nationwide fleet of trucks, we collect food daily from production facilities and retail chain branches and transport it to one of our logistical centers. There, it undergoes a strict sorting and quality control process, followed by packaging and distribution.  From our logistics center, the food reaches tens of thousands of families and elderly individuals through our network of 210 local partner organizations who carry out the last mile of distribution.

Over the years, we have brought together and closely cooperated with Israel’s leading food manufacturers and retail chains, enabling us to rescue thousands of tons of high-quality, nutritious food every year. Together, we continue to expand and grow our food rescue efforts year after year, ensuring that edible food is not wasted and instead reaches those who need it most.

Our team on the ground visit the branches and logistics centers of our partners across the country on a daily basis, collecting food and ensuring it is distributed as quickly as possible to families and elderly individuals living in food insecurity. This is a large-scale social and environmental initiative, grounded in true partnership, social responsibility, and a shared desire to make an impact.

As part of the expansion of our food rescue operations, we also collaborate with local municipalities to promote the rescue and distribution of surplus food at the city level. This is an advanced model of circular economy, in which food is collected within the city itself and delivered directly to organizations supporting local residents in need.

The initiative is carried out in logistical and operational partnership with the municipality, including a dedicated vehicle for food collection, with the goal of fostering local solidarity, saving resources in a sustainable manner and generating significant social and environmental impact. Following proven success in the city of Tel Aviv, we are working to expand the initiative to additional municipalities across Israel.

As part of Latet’s broad logistical food rescue network, we also rescue non-food consumer goods, including: personal care and toiletry items, cleaning supplies, household goods, clothing, shoes, toys, and even electronic products.
